These terms govern purchases made through emberepress.com from Embere Press. By placing an order you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to them. Full company details are set out in the Company info section at the bottom of this page.
What we sell
Embere Press sells digital books (ebooks in EPUB and PDF format) directly to consumers and, where offered, related digital products. Books are licensed to the individual buyer for personal, non-commercial reading. You may not resell, redistribute, sublicense, share or upload the files or their contents.
Payment, VAT and delivery
Payment is processed and delivery is fulfilled by our payment provider, Payhip, acting as merchant of record. Payhip is the seller of record for the transaction, collects the payment, and is responsible for applicable VAT and other consumption taxes based on the buyer's location. Your card details are handled directly by Payhip and its underlying processors and are never seen or stored by Embere Press.
Prices are shown in US dollars (USD) and include any VAT that Payhip is required to collect for your country. Digital books are delivered instantly by email to the address you provide at checkout, together with a secure download link. Please enter your email carefully, since the download link is sent there.
Right of withdrawal (14-day right) and your active consent
Under EU consumer law you would normally have 14 days to withdraw from a distance purchase. This right does not apply once delivery of digital content has begun with your prior express consent and your acknowledgement that you thereby lose the right of withdrawal.
By completing your purchase and clicking the buy button on emberepress.com, you explicitly consent that (i) delivery of the digital book begins immediately upon purchase, (ii) you request this immediate performance, and (iii) you acknowledge that this waives your 14-day right of withdrawal for the digital content in that order. This consent is captured at checkout and repeated in your order confirmation email.
Because delivery begins immediately, orders for digital books are non-refundable once placed. This does not affect any statutory rights you have if the product itself is faulty or does not perform as described (see "Faulty or misdescribed products" below).
Faulty or misdescribed products
Nothing in these terms limits your statutory consumer rights. If a book file is faulty, corrupted, cannot be opened, or the content materially differs from what was described on our product page, contact us at hello@emberepress.com within a reasonable time from discovery and we will resolve it, normally by re-delivering a working file or, where that is not possible, by issuing a refund through Payhip.
Your account and behaviour
You do not need to create an account to buy from us. If you sign up for our newsletter, you agree to receive occasional emails from Embere Press, which you can stop at any time using the unsubscribe link in every email. You agree not to attempt to access, distribute or bypass technical measures relating to our files.
Liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, Embere Press's liability arising out of or in connection with any order is limited to the amount you paid for the product concerned.
Governing law
These terms are governed by Swedish law. Consumers in the EU/EEA also have the benefit of the mandatory consumer protection rules of the country in which they reside. Disputes may be brought before the Swedish general courts, or, for consumers, the Swedish National Board for Consumer Disputes (Allmänna reklamationsnämnden, ARN).

This policy explains what personal data Embere Press collects when you use emberepress.com, why we use it, how long we keep it, and the rights you have under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
What data we collect, why, and on what legal basis
- Order data: your email address, order details, country and any billing information you provide. Collected via Payhip at checkout. Purpose: to complete the sale, deliver your book, provide customer support and satisfy legal record-keeping obligations. Legal basis: performance of the sales contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and legal obligation for tax and accounting records (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR).
- Newsletter data: your email address, and any name you optionally provide. Collected if you sign up on our website or opt in at checkout. Purpose: to send you occasional emails about new releases, offers and reader-only content from Embere Press. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw consent at any time using the unsubscribe link in every email; withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
- Contact form data: the name, email and message you send us through the contact form. Purpose: to answer your enquiry. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in responding to communications (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- Cart data: items you place in your on-site cart. Stored only in your browser's local storage on your own device. It never leaves your device unless you check out.
- Usage and analytics data: anonymous or pseudonymised information about how visitors use the site, collected through Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity and Meta Pixel to analyse user behaviour. This includes pages viewed, referrer, approximate location (country/city level from IP), device and browser, session recordings and interaction events. Purpose: to understand how the site is used and to improve it. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), given via the cookie / consent notice where required.
- Marketing and advertising data: pseudonymised identifiers used by Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and other advertising partners so that we can measure the effectiveness of our advertising and show relevant Embere Press ads to people who have visited the site. Purpose: measurement and targeting of our marketing. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
Who we share data with (processors and partners)
- Payhip: merchant of record and payment / delivery processor. Receives your email, order details and payment information to complete the sale, deliver your file, handle VAT and provide receipts. Data processor / independent controller for parts of the transaction. See Payhip's own privacy policy at payhip.com.
- Email marketing provider: MailerLite processes newsletter subscribers on our behalf to send and measure our emails.
- Analytics providers: Microsoft Clarity (session recordings and heatmaps, pseudonymised) and Google Analytics 4 (aggregated usage statistics).
- Advertising partners: Meta Platforms (Facebook, Instagram) via the Meta Pixel and Conversions API for advertising measurement and targeting.
- Hosting: Vercel Inc., which serves the website and receives standard server logs.
Some of these providers are based outside the EU/EEA (in particular the United States). Where personal data is transferred outside the EU/EEA, we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and, where applicable, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, together with any additional safeguards required for the transfer to be lawful.
How long we keep your data
- Order records: as long as required by Swedish accounting law (currently seven years from the end of the calendar year in which the order was placed).
- Newsletter data: until you unsubscribe, or until we notice you have been inactive for an extended period and clean the list.
- Contact form messages: up to 24 months after the matter is resolved.
- Analytics and advertising data: as configured with each provider, typically 14 to 26 months.
- Cart data: only on your device, cleared when you clear browser storage.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use only what is necessary to run the site by default. Non-essential cookies and trackers (analytics, advertising, session replay) are loaded only after you accept them in our cookie notice, and you can change or withdraw your choice at any time. See "Your choices" below.
Your rights
You have the following rights in relation to your personal data:
- The right to access the data we hold about you.
- The right to rectification of inaccurate or incomplete data.
- The right to erasure ("right to be forgotten") where legal grounds allow.
- The right to restriction of processing in certain cases.
- The right to data portability for data you have provided to us and which we process on the basis of consent or contract.
- The right to object to processing based on our legitimate interests, and to object at any time to direct marketing.
- The right to withdraw consent at any time for processing based on your consent.
- The right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Sweden this is the Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten (IMY), imy.se.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@emberepress.com from the address associated with your data. We will respond within one month.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the link in every email. You can withdraw consent for analytics and advertising trackers by changing your selection in our cookie notice, or by blocking these in your browser. You can ask us to delete your account or data by emailing the address above.
Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is That's Buy AB, corporate identity number 556926-4749, registered at Kungsportsavenyen 21, 411 36 Göteborg, Sweden. That's Buy AB is the technical partner behind Embere Press and other independent publishers, handling the infrastructure that lets small presses reach readers directly.
